Skin tears are easily caused when skin has become very thin and delicate. It's common as we age.
Skin tears fall into one of three categories:
- The skin flap is still present and has enough size to cover the tear
- When the skin flap is damaged and the tear can't heal easily
- The skin flap isn't present. This is the most problematic of skin tears and can take a long time to heal, sometimes with complications.
Prevention, as is always the case, is better than cure (treatment) Protective sleeves worn on the arms or legs can make a real difference in preventing these painful skin rips or tears.
